Giving back brings purpose to life

Alignment, Inc. contributes a percentage of top line revenues to a variety of charitable endeavors. Kristin Kaufman was reared with philanthropy being integral to her life and work. She believes being conscious of when and how we give of our time, our talents, and our treasures can bring meaning and purpose to life.  She believes we do not have to wait until we 'retire' to start – thus, we are sharing just a few of the worthwhile philanthropic organizations which Alignment, Inc. actively supports and fully endorses.

Rotary International

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

The Rotary Club which Alignment, Inc. actively supports is the Preston Center Rotary Club in Dallas, Texas. It is a professional group of men and women coming together to support and assist each other, while expanding their knowledge of business, ethics and current affairs. The club promotes truth and fairness to all concerned and helps to build long-lasting friendships between members. The club benefits the community through its humanitarian efforts, fiscal stewardship, and support of many charities and fund raising events. A few of the local endeavors and charities supported include:

Voice of Hope

PCRC supports Voice of Hope, a West Dallas Christian-based family ministry with after school programs, summer camps and life skills training.  We founded an indoor Grand Prix style go cart race which is one of the primary fundraising events for VOH.  Our support over the years includes neighborhood cleanup, yard light installation, work and school tutoring, reading to children, home improvement and event coordination and participation.

Mi Escuelita School

A seven location early childhood development organization with emphasis on teaching English and literacy skills.

Equest

A therapeutic and rehabilitative horseback riding center near Lake Ray Hubbard in Wylie, Texas for adults and children with physical, mental, emotional and learning disabilities.

Ronald McDonald House

A temporary home for out of town families with loved ones in ongoing hospital care. The Trains at Northpark, an award winning model train display, was created by one of our members which raises money for the Ronald McDonald House.

Salvation Army

An international organization committed to helping those in need with basic life necessities.  Our Rotary Club volunteers at the annual Angel Tree  campaign, where local shoppers donate purchased Christmas gifts for needy families.

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital

An amazing nationally recognized “no-charge” hospital specializing in orthopedic and neurological conditions for Texas children.

North Texas Food Bank

One of the nation’s largest food pantries helping hungry individuals and families around the region.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association

Kappa promotes, through its standards, a broad college and continuing alumnae experience. Scholarship or intellectual development is our first priority, and the impressive achievements of our members attest to this. Cultural growth is important as well. Kappa Kappa Gamma encourages members to seek opportunities for self-growth in a variety of interests in the chapter, campus, and in the community. Kappa Kappa Gamma also provides leadership opportunities in a mutually supportive environment.

Finally, Kappa members believe that philanthropy or mutual helpfulness is of significant importance. The Dallas Alumnae Association is one of the oldest and largest alumnae associations of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  A few of the local non-profits which our association supports include:

Camp C.O.P.E.

Camp C.O.P.E. strives to help the children of service members cope with the transitions and/or trauma they are facing in response to the deployment or injuries sustained by their parents.  Today, there are close to 700,000 children in the U.S. with at least one parent deployed, according to the American Psychological Association. Additionally, Pentagon reports indicate close to 19,000 children have had a parent injured in the military since September 11, 2001.  Proceeds from Kappa Tablescapes will be used to fund the cost of a free, local camp to help 150 children deal with issues of injury, loss and/or deployment of their parents who are servicemen and women.

The Foundation for the Education of Young Women

In early 2001, Lee Posey, Chairman of Palm Harbor Homes, read about a new single-sex public school in New York City, The Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem. The school had achieved remarkable success, with 100% of its graduating classes accepted to four-year colleges and universities. In 2002, Lee, along with his wife, Sally, established the Foundation for the Education of Young Women in Dallas and began the effort to get a similar school established in the Dallas Independent School District. In 2004, the Foundation's first school, the Irma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, opened its doors with the support of the Foundation for the Education of Young Women.  Kappa Tablescapes proceeds will fund the Educational Enhancement Program in the summer of 2010 for the eleventh graders of the Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership Academy. The students will develop their skills in communication, writing, interviewing, public speaking and professional etiquette.

Educational Opportunities, Inc.

Educational Opportunities, Inc. is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing scholarships and mentoring support to graduates of Dallas public schools from low-income families.  The organization was founded in 1965 as an outgrowth of the Scholarship Committee of the West Dallas Community Center by a group of individuals concerned with helping young people of modest means attain their dream of a college education.  Educational Opportunities, Inc. has helped hundreds of culturally diverse students from Dallas high schools fund their educations at colleges and universities.  Kappa Tablescapes support will fund one-year college scholarships for two highly motivated Dallas high school graduates from low-income families.

The Texas Voice Project for Parkinson Disease

More than 1.5 million people in the United States have Parkinson disease, a neurodegenerative disorder with familiar symptoms of tremor, slowness of movement and impaired balance. Less recognized is that 89% of people with Parkinson's suffer from a Parkinson Related Voice Disorder, a severe, gradual deterioration of vocal abilities that can ultimately result in an inability to verbally communicate.  The Texas Voice Project for Parkinson Disease is dedicated to helping people with Parkinson disease regain and maintain the ability to verbally communicate, regardless of their ability to pay. Proceeds from Kappa Tablescapes will fund all the expenses of a therapeutic day-long excursion to Enterprise City for 200 clients with Parkinson disease. The object of this program is to enable participants to regain and maintain the ability to speak.

The Turner Twelve

The mission of The Turner Twelve is to develop and expose at-risk students that will generate a zeal to become first-generation college attendees.  The program provides middle school kids with rewarding mentoring relationships that will expose them to educational opportunities and different career choices.  The six year program empowers inner-city students through educational experiences, team building and spiritual guidance.  After graduating from the program the students will earn full scholarships to college.  Kappa Tablescapes support will fund the program Educational Endeavors to mentor twelve at-risk students.

The Wilkinson Center

The Wilkinson Center utilizes a holistic approach in combating poverty.  Wilkinson’s programs are designed to work with the entire family, to empower them to help themselves break the cycle of poverty.  The Center’s programs are two-tiered:  They first address the immediate family needs through our Food Pantry and emergency services.  Second tier programs begin to move families out of poverty through case management and programs designed to provide the tools and skills necessary to assist them in achieving economic self-sufficiency. Kappa Tablescapes proceeds will fund the entire cost of the CLIMB UP! after-school program for one year at the Hector Garcia Middle School for 45-60 students. The funds will pay for college-level tutors, healthy snacks, supplies, field trips and professional art instruction.

The YWCA of Dallas

If you want to change the world, you have to start by changing the lives of the world’s women. Lift women out of poverty, illiteracy and second-class citizenship and the whole community benefits. For 100 years, the YWCA has played a vital role in the community, continuously adapting to meet women’s most critical needs.  The purpose of the YWCA is to help improve women’s lives and remove barriers to self-sufficiency.  Today’s YWCA focuses primarily on helping women move from poverty to self-sufficiency. Many live just above the poverty threshold, making them ineligible for public benefits but still in need of assistance to achieve self-sufficiency.  Proceeds from Kappa Tablescapes will partially fund the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), a cost effective, evidence-based program where highly educated nurses visit first-time, low-income mothers in their home beginning during pregnancy and continuing until the child’s second birthday.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation/Leadership Academy

The Kappa Kappa Gamma Leadership Academy is funded by a grant through the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.  The Academy has worked to develop the leadership skills of emerging leaders in our collegiate chapters and emerging advisers of those chapters.  The goal is for these members to take active leadership roles in their chapters, on their campuses, in their communities and throughout their alumnae lives while encouraging others to do so as well.  Kappa Tablescapes support will fund scholarships for outstanding college students from the seven Texas Kappa chapters to attend the Leadership Academy. The funds will be matched by a Challenge Grant from the Walton Family Foundation.
